User Enablement

Empowering system and process users

User Enablement
Impulses and measures for acceptance,
use and efficiency of new technologies

We've all been there: a new system is introduced, processes are redefined and these two changes often take place in parallel. For the changes to take effect in the organization, it is usually not enough to announce the innovations and communicate the start date. Users need both the competence to operate the system and the inner willingness to accept change. Only if the added value of the new possibilities is understood and used in a targeted manner can the transformation succeed and contribute to achieving the company's goals. User Enablement / User Adoption is often used as part of OCM (Organizational Change Management) in large transformation projects. If you are looking for the ideal partner to provide comprehensive support during a transformation or would like to find out more about OCM, we would like to draw your attention to our Organizational Change Management offer.

User enablement - often also referred to as user adoption - forms the basis for this:
It strengthens the acceptance, use and efficiency of new technologies and processes among those involved and thus supports the achievement of business goals.

How do we approach this?

For this transformation process, we have developed a universally applicable user enablement methodology and our adaptable user enablement toolbox, which we use successfully for our customers.

Key components of the toolbox include traditional training, e-learning, the use of audiovisual media, interactive elements and supplementary materials. The methodology includes the planning, design and implementation of targeted measures to effectively prepare users for the use of new tools, software, processes and systems.

The DXC Academy's user enablement methodology combines conceptual and technical approaches to develop customized strategies. We support you in all phases so that the optimal approach is chosen for your specific needs.

The first step is the discovery of the status quo: a comprehensive analysis of the current situation forms the basis.

This is followed by the individual conception, whereby the didactic approach is specifically tailored to the needs of the target group. This includes selecting the required tools from our toolbox aand defining suitable media and communication channels.

The next step is to work out the content of the concept. Existing structures, such as learning platforms, and existing content can be taken into account if necessary. This elaboration also includes planning the implementation of tools and content.

Once the content has been determined and production has been planned, the next step is implementation. This ranges from the creation of learning materials and seminar preparation to the technical production of media, such as video recording in the studio and corresponding post-production.

The final step is the introduction. The finalized content is made available to the target audience and seminars or events are held. We also accompany the launch, e.g. by collecting key figures on user satisfaction.

Didactic concepts

In terms of didactic concepts, we distinguish between two overarching categories:

  • Group experience (such as personal training or workshops)
  • Self-study (such as e-learning or user guides)

Group experience
Self-Study
Personal training / coaching
E-Learning & web-based training
Online-seminar /
Online-course (virtual classroom)
Mobile learning
Events / Workshops
Digital documents & print media
Blended learning:

Both categories offer their own advantages, which is why it often makes sense to use elements from both areas. This combination is known as “blended learning” and enables the modules from our Toolbox to be used to optimum effect.

In an introductory event, for example, participants can overcome the first difficulties together and develop a basic understanding. On this basis, they then deepen their knowledge in independently conducted learning units - for example through e-learning and training documents tailored to their needs.

Our Toolbox

Didactic concepts & technical possibilities

Structure of the User Enablement Toolbox

The toolbox consists of various practical modules that can be combined specifically for user enablement. The modules are divided into 4 superordinate categories:

  • Personal experience (coaching, workshops, events, etc.)
  • Audiovisual media (videos, animations, etc.)
  • Interactive elements (quizzes, chatbots, gamification, etc.)
  • Supplementary materials (articles, FAQ pages, posters, user manual, etc.)
The modules are basically available for free selection & flexible combination.

We support you with our extensive experience in selecting the right modules for the specific use case. The selected modules are then combined into a flowchart - the so-called „user journey“.

User enablement toolbox with modules

User Jouney

As an implementation of our user enablement methodology, the user journey is designed in three steps. First, a suitable didactic concept is created that best meets the requirements. Then the specific modules are selected from the toolbox that best support the implementation in the organization. Finally, a schedule is orchestrated that is tailored to the respective target and user groups.

Creation of the user journey at a glance

When creating your individual process plan, we refer to the concept of the diffusion of innovation (Everett Rogers, 1962). This theory states that different attitudes prevail within the affected target group during innovation and change processes.

Ablaufplan Module
Example of a typical user journey along the different user groups

First, there are the “Innovators” who initiate change and support it from the outset. They are followed by the “early adopters”, who are quickly convinced of the usefulness of an innovation and actively participate in it. Then comes the large midfield, consisting of the “Early Majority” and the “Late Majority”. These groups do not react immediately to changes, but can be won over to the innovation after a certain amount of time. And finally, there are the “Laggards”, who are often not really interested in change and therefore need to be convinced of the benefits of innovation.

With this in mind, the concept and modules of the toolbox are specifically adapted depending on the composition of your user groups. We support you in this process and make appropriate suggestions for an optimal schedule to ensure that all affected subgroups are addressed efficiently.

Depending on the composition of your user groups, the concept and the modules of the toolbox should also be tailored to this. We will assist you with the planning and present appropriate proposals to ensure that all affected subgroups are addressed efficiently.
